What this solves
New players often fight the fabric with large mouse swipes, then watch the needle leave the dotted path on every curve. Sewing Assist is the built-in stabilizer for that problem: while you hold Space to feed fabric, assist helps keep the stitch line closer to the guide. It will not fix bad grain cuts or wrong style tags, and it will not replace your timing on sharp corners. Treat it as a training wheel for control, then decide later whether you want full manual steering for perfect-score practice.
Step by step
- 1. Enable assist in Settings
Open Settings and turn Sewing Assist on before you start a demanding seam. Confirm the option stays enabled after you leave the menu. If your build labels the toggle differently, look for sewing help or steer-assist wording near the control options.
- 2. Hold Space and let assist share the turn
Start the seam with Space held so fabric feeds at a steady rate. On gentle curves, allow assist to nudge the path instead of yanking the mouse. You still own start, stop, and speed. Assist reduces panic corrections; it does not sew the dress for you.
- 3. Pause before sharp corners
Even with assist, release Space before a hard 90 degree turn, rotate with A/D, then resume. Assist helps mid-curve, but momentum into a corner still overshoots. Combine assist with deliberate pauses rather than relying on one tool alone.
- 4. Decide when to turn assist off
Once your hands track dotted lines reliably, try a simple dress with assist off to learn pure A/D and mouse feel. Keep assist available for multi-panel or formal commissions if fatigue creeps in. Switching modes mid-career is fine; consistency on grain and tags still matters more than the toggle.
Common mistakes
- Expecting assist to rescue a dress cut without green grain outlines.
- Holding Space through corners and hoping assist alone saves the turn.
- Changing speed wildly with W/S while assist is fighting a bad mouse swipe.
- Leaving assist off during the first hour when control feel is still new.
